LGBTQ+ Art Therapy Youth Group
presented by Colors+ Counseling LLC
Group 1 ages 4-9 In-Person February TBD
Group 2 ages 10-17 Virtual TBD
This group will allow youth to process exploration of experiences, both positive and negative; allow for a reinforcement of one’s identity through art interventions; give youth the opportunity to learn how to use personal strengths and experiences to better manage present and future challenges, and to connect with others in the LGBTQ+ community in an effort to decrease social isolation. 70% of LGBTQ young people said that their mental health was “poor” most of the time or always during COVID-19. Risk factors addressed by this program include bullying, isolation, and negative coping methods like self-harm and/or substance use. Protective factors the program will increase include self-esteem, advocacy for others in the LGBTQ+ community, a stronger sense of community, an increase in a sense of belonging, and positive coping. This group is funded by ADAMHS Board of Cuyahoga County, and there is no fee to participate and participation is limited to Cuyahoga County residents.
